Legacy sequels? 20 years later? Groundbreaking. It’s official: the much-anticipated follow-up to the iconic 2006 film ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is set to hit theatres on 1 May, 2026 – almost exactly two decades later. However, it’s still yet to be seen if this release window can be honoured, as major studio projects are notorious for moving at a glacial pace. But most importantly, what do things look like for Miranda Priestly and company in today’s vastly different fashion and media landscape? Here’s everything we know so far about ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2.’

What’s The Cover Story?
Given that ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger (a former assistant to infamous ‘Vogue’ editor-in-chief Anna Wintour), it would be reasonable to assume that a sequel might follow the plot of another book in the trilogy – ‘Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns’ (2013) or ‘When Life Gives You Lululemons’ (2018). However, that’s not what seems to be the plan.
Few details are confirmed, but reports say the original screenwriter will return with a script told largely from ’Runway’ editor-in-chief Miranda Priestley’s perspective as she faces the decline of traditional print magazines. While it’s still unclear how Andy Sachs fits into this story decades after quitting the job that ‘a million girls would kill for,’ Priestly is expected to be facing off against her other ex-assistant, Emily Charlton – who is now an executive at a luxury group controlling precious advertising dollars.

Who Will Be In This Issue?
Despite the fact that a release date has already been set, production for ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ has yet to make any official casting announcements. While several major stars from the first film like Anne Hathaway (Andy), Emily Blunt (Emily), and Stanley Tucci (‘Runway’ art director Nigel Kipling) have all expressed interest in returning over the years, the biggest uncertainty lies in the return of Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly – after earning an Oscar nomination for her 2006 performance.
With the rumoured plot of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ hinging so heavily on Priestly’s presence, the film would likely struggle to move forward without Streep. While Streep has had an unofficial yet well-known ‘No Sequels’ protocol for most of her career, she has made exceptions to this second-film-aversion as recently as 2018 for ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ – though that film was technically a prequel-sequel hybrid, and Streep only appeared in a cameo.
Now, with Streep seemingly more open to reprising roles (even committing to multiple seasons of the hit show ‘Only Murders In The Building’), and with the film’s original director and producer also in talks to return, the future of this legacy sequel looks promising. Stay tuned for more updates! That’s all.
