Hong Kong Comic Con 2026 Goes Back To The Future (And The Past) With The Time Traveller Cosplay Challenge!

Hong Kong is officially stepping onto the global fan convention stage. Making its debut this year, Hong Kong Comic Con 2026 is the 852’s first large-scale entry into the Comic Con circuit.

This first edition arrives as part of a wider regional expansion, with the franchise continuing to grow its presence across Asia. With three days of international stars, panel discussions, an Artist Alley, Gaming Zone, and an extra-special cosplay concept set to draw plenty of attention, the city’s inaugural Comic Con is putting its best foot forward from 29 to 31 May.

A Roster Of Global Stars

Diving straight into the convention world with a splash, Hong Kong Comic Con 2026 is going all in on star power for its first outing. Fan-favourite names like Norman Reedus of ‘The Walking Dead’ bulk up a stacked roster of international guests including Mads Mikkelsen (‘Hannibal’), Giancarlo Esposito (‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘The Boys’), Christopher Lloyd (‘Back to the Future’), Jamie Campbell Bower (‘Stranger Things’), Katie Leung (‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Arcane,’ ‘Bridgerton’), and ‘Star Wars’ actor Daniel Logan.

In classic Comic Con fashion, every guest celebrity will be available for paid autograph sessions and photo ops, while also making a few special main stage appearances.

On the home front of this cross-fandom lineup is Hong Kong’s own Louis Koo, stepping in as the event’s official ambassador and bringing his long-standing stardom and genre credentials to the table for the three-day fan celebration.

Time Traveller Cosplay Challenge

A standout part of this year’s lineup is the Time Traveller Cosplay Challenge – an East-meets-West, cross-universe crossover where Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown from ‘Back to the Future’ meets Louis Koo’s time-travelling lead from ‘Back to the Past’ for one spectacular event.

Framed as a collision of timelines – from Hollywood to Hong Kong, from the past to the future – the challenge invites fans to step directly into these two worlds over Comic Con weekend.

Participation isn’t a casual walk-up, however. Cosplayers need to apply and register in advance through official Hong Kong Comic Con channels, submitting their details and chosen character before 11:59pm on 22 May. Once accepted, contestants sign up under one of two categories: characters from ‘Back to the Future’ or from ‘Back to the Past,’ with each group judged separately during the main-stage showcase.

One winner will be crowned from each group, turning the challenge into a creative, fan-driven showdown between two eras and two much-loved time-travel franchises. And the prizes go well beyond bragging rights, with winners receiving exclusive Hong Kong Comic Con 2026 merchandise, limited-edition signed items, photo ops with Lloyd and Koo, and more.

The First Of Many?

As first editions go, Hong Kong Comic Con 2026 is arriving with real ambition. Between a global slate of stars, a packed mix of fan-driven programming, and a cosplay challenge built to travel far beyond the convention floor, organisers are clearly thinking beyond a one-off debut.

If this is the starting point, the obvious question is what comes next. It remains to be seen whether Hong Kong Comic Con 2026 can build enough momentum to attract even more international names, deeper regional collaborations, and perhaps even spin-off programming that further blurs the line between fan convention, media platform, and pop culture festival.

As Comic Con continues to expand its presence across Asia, Hong Kong’s opening chapter already feels like a confident sign of what the city can bring to fandom on a larger stage.
