Get ready to see colour – vivid, bold colour – in a fine jewellery space that has long treated clear stones as the default. Vicki Lam, co-founder and jewellery designer of Diamonds Gallery, is giving diamonds a more expressive language.
Guided by the belief that jewellery should breathe and speak, her work champions fancy coloured diamonds, lab‑grown sustainability, and transformable pieces designed to move with a modern woman’s day. A pair of studs can become evening earrings, a ring can be worn as a necklace, and a diamond can carry more personality than convention usually allows.
They were also among the early names in Hong Kong to introduce lab‑grown diamonds, long before they became part of the mainstream conversation. Now, with a new AI design tool, Vicki is taking that spirit of experimentation further – making fine jewellery more personal, more colourful, and more in tune with how people want to wear it today.
We caught up with Vicki to talk standout designs, coloured diamonds, sustainability, and how her brand is shaping a new way of looking at fine jewellery.

Can you tell us about the philosophy behind your transformable pieces?
When I design our jewellery, I always think about how each piece can merge into a woman’s everyday life. As a busy working woman myself, I prefer pieces that can adapt quickly and be worn for different occasions. For example, you can start with a simple pair of stud earrings. By adding a jacket, you can give them a layered look. Then, for something like a cocktail party, you can attach a tassel to elevate them even further. The same idea of adaptation applies across pieces – for instance, a ring can also be worn as a necklace.
What draws you to such a vibrant palette of coloured diamonds in your designs?
I’m someone who gets bored easily, and I believe the world of jewellery should be full of colour. I’ve always tried to create pieces that truly breathe and speak. Our signature is coloured diamonds paired with monochrome gradients. In one of our designs, the light blue transitions into a vivid blue, creating a flowing palette that suggests movement and vitality. I love how the dynamism comes through in the gradual shift of colour.
Is there a recent design you’re particularly excited about?
I’m really proud of this recent piece we’ve created – a rainbow-coloured diamond bracelet. It was a challenge to make, especially because colours like orange and purple are so rare, and it took us over two years to source every shade.
That’s what makes this bracelet stand out. Instead of using colourful gemstones, it’s crafted entirely from diamonds, making it a completely new approach. I only found the final colours recently, and I believe it may be the first bracelet of its kind in Hong Kong.
There are many brands working with vibrant gemstones, but rainbow-coloured diamonds are something very few have attempted.
What motivated your decision to work with lab-grown diamonds?
We chose lab-grown diamonds because we’re committed to offering sustainable jewellery. By using lab-grown diamonds and durable precious metals, we can create pieces that have a lower impact on the environment. We believe this approach is better for both people and the planet.
We were actually early pioneers of lab-grown diamonds in Hong Kong. We began sourcing them from overseas in 2020, at a time when many people hadn’t even heard of them. We’ve always focused on fancy-coloured diamonds – because why settle for less when natural coloured diamonds can cost a fortune? With lab-grown options, the world of jewellery can finally be as colourful as I believe it should be.
Since introducing lab-grown diamonds, what changes have you seen in customer attitudes?
Back then, the market offered only natural diamonds, so bringing lab-grown diamonds to Hong Kong truly felt innovative. When we first introduced them, many people questioned whether they were ‘fake’ or whether they lacked the meaning traditionally associated with diamonds. Natural diamonds have long symbolised love, but we believe lab-grown diamonds express love in an even more thoughtful way – they show that we care about sustainability and the impact of our choices.
Today, the market has become much more educated. When customers visit our store, their first question is no longer about whether a diamond is real. Instead, they ask whether it’s lab-grown, or they request to see both options for comparison. People are far more open to this alternative, even though lab-grown diamonds are not actually new – they’ve been popular internationally, especially in the US.
From lab-grown diamonds to AI customisation, your brand continues to push the boundaries of modern fine jewellery. How does your new AI design tool support your clients’ creative process?
Couples deserve the best tools to help them envision what they’ll be wearing for the rest of their lives. This year, we introduced a new AI software that allows customers to turn their ideas into a design instantly. They can choose the alloy colour, the diamond pattern, and even the shape of the band. With one click, their design is generated and fully modelled. Once they confirm the design in the software, they can place the order online or visit our showroom if they’d like further assistance.
